The current level of consolidations of National Wine companies is demanding that wine wholesalers dedicate their salespeople's time and energy into maintaining their focus on a limited numbers of commercial wines in their wine portfolio's. These demands on wholesalers has been taking away the mind share of smaller estate grown properties that do not have a Regional sales and marketing staff to represent their products, and work with their distributor managements and saleforces to gain market presence. The most recent sale of Allied Domecq Wine company to Future Brands and Pernod Ricard for a reported 14.5 Billion dollars will cause many wine brands to change wholesalers to merge with their liquor brand counterparts. As this happens, wholesalers become under a lot of pressure to ensure that these large companies are satisfied with their distribution, which leaves the smaller, independent wineries on the outside of sales attention by wholesaler sales teams. |
